New research article on intestinal immunization
Virulent intestinal pathogens generally induce a stronger mucosal immunity than avirulent strains, but whether the associated inflammation is necessary for this is unclear. In their new paper published in Nature Communications IFIK researcher Siegfried Hapfelmeier and coworkers, using auxotrophic Salmonella enterica, show that virulence factor function determines induction of protective mucosal IgA.
